Do you have that favorite piece of clothing that everyone else hates? A style that that’s been long gone or just that one item that you absolutely love? I was thinking of the clothing that used to be cool and no longer is. In the mid-seventies it was the mid crop t-shirts for the fellas in gym class. The 80’s owned polo shirts and 501’s. What well healed man didn’t sport a Members Only jacket. In Grand Junction in the mid-Seventies through the mid-Eighties their was a phenomenon that happened only in Grand Junction. We where the number one market for Chippewa Boots. Guys and girls wore these. If you had a pair of “Chips” and 501’s you were golden.
My wife Lori has some fashions remaining from the 90’s and 2000’s that she just doesn’t want to let go. She is waiting for the return of these styles, I don’t think it will happen anytime soon.
For me, its my overalls. In the world of fine fashion overalls have gotten a bad rap. They are your cousin Eddie. Overalls are the square peg in a round hole. They are Junior Samples. Nothing says redneck like a pair of overalls and that’s why I love them. Overalls are an acquired taste. They are the most comfortable piece of clothing I own. You don’t need a belt, pockets galore, and lots of “roominess”. Overalls can be worn casually, for an around the house project or a night on the town. If you worry about others wearing the same thing you do to a concert or event, never fear, NO ONE else will be seen in a pair of overalls. I like to break mine out for appropriate concerts. I’ve worn them to Luke Bryan and Luke Combs. (perhaps it’s “Luke” concerts) I keep threatening to wear them to a show at the Warehouse. Lori hasn’t signed off on that one yet. There are a lot of fashions that have gone away and shouldn’t come back (parachute pants) or ones that should never have been thought of (men’s tube tops-so wrong)
If you have that favorite clothing that everyone rolls their eyes at, go for it, rock it, wear it with pride. Trust me you look good.
